今年もいよいよTokyo Designers’ Week 2007 と Design Tideが始まりました。今年は新たにDESIGN TOUCHも東京ミッドタウンで開催され、東京のデザインのお祭りムードは増すばかり！
今日は神宮外苑、Tokyo Designers’ Week 2007 の100% Designそしてお隣り国立競技場のDesign Tideの模様をお伝えします！
Tokyo Designers’ Week 2007 and Design Tide have started. From this year, a new
design event named DESIGN TOUCH is taking place in Tokyo Midtown, adding to the worldwide festive spirit. Today we have reports from 100% Design and Design Tide.
今年は会場規模も拡大し、Michael Youngをクリエイティブディレクターに迎えた100% Design Tokyoは明るい光が差し込む白いテントが会場。メイングラフィックの赤いボタンや展示品の色が映えてとても楽しい雰囲気のなか、たくさんの来場者で賑わっていました。
100% Design appointed Michael Young as a creative director this year. In white tents lit by natural light, 100% Design’s red button graphics and bright display items add a colourful touch to the happy atmosphere.
今年の目玉は何といってもオランダのデザイン！CREATED IN HOLLANDと名付けられたオレンジのブースには、今大きな注目を集める10のクリエーターによるアイテムの数々が展示されています。
こちらのブースにはAtmosphere 01でもインタビューを行ったキャロライン・フリーガーとヘイン・ファン・ダムによるブランドVLIEGER & VANDAM（フリーガー＆ファンダム）も出展。デザイナー本人も来日しての参加です。
CREATED IN HOLLAND is one of this year’s special features. In this section, items from 10 cutting-edge Dutch creators and brands are on show. Amongst them is VLIEGER & VANDAM, whom we interviewed in Atmosphere 01. The designers themselves travelled to Japan to participate in the event.

一方、オランダブースの反対側に設置されているエリアはDesign from Flanders。コーティッド・フォームを用いた家具のSIXINCHをはじめとする、文字通りベルギー・フランダースからのデザインが集められています。フランダース地方といえばファッションの街アントワープを抱えることでも知られていますが、プロダクトや家具の領域でもその力強さを感じさせる内容となっていました。
On the other side, Design from Flanders is on display. As the name suggests, designs from Flanders, Belgium are being exhibited. Many people must be familiar with places like Antwerp for fashion, however, the booths proved that the region is also strong in other creative disciplines such as product and furniture design.
さて、お隣り国立競技場で行われているDesign Tide。今年のベーステーマはPLAY。
Design Tide moved its site to the National Stadium this year, and the event’s theme is PLAY.
遊び心あふれるタイポグラフィというテーマを共有していたのは日本の大日本タイポ組合とイギリスからやってきたÅbäke。
UK-based design collective Åbäke and Japan’s Dainippon Type Organization seem to share an enthusiasm for playful typography.
大日本タイポ組合はテーマのPLAYの4文字を組み合わせて新しい文字をつくるという作品を展示。来場者の手により次々と新たな文字が生まれていくのが印象的です。
DTO’s work uses the characters of P, L, A and Y, from which you can make new typesets.
そしてÅbäkeは彼らが長期に渡って続けているプロジェクト、手や腕を使って来場者の名前を作り上げるLimb Typography（limbは英語で手足の意）を本格的に日本初上陸させました。もちろん今回はカタカナ（！）で字を作成。（写真の女性はタイからやってきたので、特別にタイ語での文字を作成！）こちらも参加型の楽しい内容です。
Åbäke have brought their on-going project, Limb Typography, to the event where they will create your name in Japanese Katakana using their limbs!

（åbäkeは他にも11月2日(金) から11月4日(日) までトーキョーワンダーサイト渋谷併設カフェ「kurage」を英国パブ「THE JELLYFISH ARMS」に変身させるプロジェクトもこなし大忙し。こちらも要チェックです。）
Design Tide会場内ではドキュメンタリー映画『Helvetica』もプレビュー中。字幕監修にタイポグラファー小林章氏を迎えた日本語で始めてのお披露目となっています！
The preview of Helvetica (with subtitles from Linotype’s typographer Akira Kobayashi) is also on view!
