最近は香港やシンガポールなどアジア諸国においてはグラフィックは人気があるようで、日本をテーマにした様々な展覧会やワークショップ、カンファレンスなどが開催されることが多い。同じようにグラフィック書籍は香港のAllRightsReservedや、cream、シンガポールのwerk、pageoneといった出版社などがハイクオリティのコンテンツ／印刷物を出版している。なかでも日本人デザイナー達はアジア諸国では人気があるようで、日本人デザイナー達を中心にした展覧会や作品集等が多いようだ。
なかでもSK Lamが主宰するAllRightsReservedは、デザインコンサルタント会社として、様々なアートディレクションなどの他、展覧会などの企画／ディレクション、カンファレンスのプロデュースなどの活動をしながらも、年間数冊の書籍の発行もしている。いつもその装丁は豪華というかこだわりの一冊になっていて、最近ではステッカーグラフィックスというステッカーを集めた書籍は、世界各地で活躍するデザイナー達がつくったステッカー、豪華なブックレット、そしてDVDまでが収録されていて、しかもパッケージはオリジナルの型をおこしたものを使用し、色は全部で4色という、かなりのこだわったものになっている。そして最近日本のBEAMS Tで開催されたKEVIN LYONSの展覧会に合わせて出版された一冊も、カバーがＴシャツで使われるコットン素材でできているなど細部にわたってこだわりの一冊となっている。
もちろん日本人のクリエイターについても彼はとてもよく知っていて、ほとんどのデザイナーは彼の名前をどこかで聞いたことある、あるいはメールなどでコンタクトがあったりするのでないだろうか。もしかしたら、彼からメールがきたら、あなたも認められたということになるのかもしれない。次はまたどんなことをしてくれるのか、彼の動きはいつも目が離せない。

Recently in Hong Kong and Singapore and other Asian countries, graphics seem to be what’s popular. Many exhibitions, workshops and conferences with Japan as the main theme are taking place in Asia and likewise, high quality contents and publications are being put out by publishers in Hong Kong like AllRightsReserved and cream, and Singapore’s werk and pageone.
Particularly, AllRightsReserved run by SK Lam publishes several books a year while doing various art direction work as a design consultant company and produce and direct exhibitions and conferences at the same time. The binding of their books are always extravagant with a special twist to it. Sticker Graphics published recently comes with collection of stickers by designers from around the world, a gorgeous booklet, and even a DVD. AND the package is made from an original shape using all 4 colors! Another book published to go with Kevin Lyons’ exhibition which took place at BEAMS T in Japan, came with a cotton cover used for the T-shirts.So you can see their obsession for details.
Of course he is very familiar of Japanese creators and vice versa, most designers have heard of his name at some point, or perhaps have gotten some kind of email from him. If so, you might be yet another one to be recognized by him. What will he do next..my eyes are always curious of his next move.

以前紹介した、BIG ACTIVEがアートディレクションをしたBECKのCDは、世界各国のアーティスト達のグラフィックステッカーがついていて、それを自由に貼って自分だけのオリジナルCDスリーブをつくるというもの。そのなかに日本人で唯一参加しているアーティストが薮野研盛である。
彼はこれまで『アイデア／IDEA』『SWITCH』『spectator』『VICE』(UK/JAPAN)『Dazed & Confused』(UK/JAPAN)『APE』(UK)『COMPOSITE』といった国内外の雑誌で作品を発表しながらも、ROCKET (Japan) GALLERY SPEAK FOR (Japan) NEW IMAGE ART GALLERY (L.A.)などで展覧会を開催するなど、世界各地から注目されているアーティストの一人である。彼の作品はホームページでみることができるので、ぜひ。

BECK’s CD, art directed by BIG ACTIVE which I wrote about before, comes with a graphic sticker designed by artists from around the world. These stickers can be used with creative freedom of the user to create their own original CD sleeves. Amongst the particiapting artists, the one and only Japanese artists was Kensei Yabuno.
He has done works for magazines in and out of Japan, such as IDEA, SWITCH, spectator, VICE (UK/JAPAN) Dazed & Confused (UK/JAPAN) APE (UK) and COMPOSITE as well as hold exhibitions at galleries like ROCKET (Japan), GALLERY SPEAK FOR (Japan), NEW IMAGE ART GALLERY (L.A), and is an artist with attention from around the world.
